UP Resilience Institute introduces COVID chatbot, 'Yani the Endcovbot'

The University of the Philippines Resilience Institute (UPRI) has launched a chatbot meant to cater to people's needs amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) threat in the country.

On UPRI's website, it said the bot is named Yani, short for "baYANIhan," to "honor our heroes in the fight against COVID-19."

Yani is an AI member of the UPRI's "EndCov Team" and is there to help anyone look for "information about the government's policies in relation to health, education, transportation and support."

The chatbot can also link people to psychologists and psychosocial support specialists to help them with their "mental and emotional needs."

It was also created to help people find the nearest hospitals around them.

Yani is ready to chat every time you visit https://www.endcov.ph/. You can also choose whether they want to converse in English or Filipino.

Earlier, the Philippine Red Cross also launched a mobile app called "RC143" to help Filipinos assess their risk of contracting COVID-19.

The app also allows users to connect with Red Cross directly for a more "efficient, effective, and personal response" to their concerns.

As of Tuesday, the COVID-19 cases in the Philippines climbed to 3,764 with 177 deaths and 84 recoveries, according to the Department of Health.
