Duque digs in despite senators' call for his resignation

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III on Thursday said that he will continue to serve the country in his best capacity despite the senators' call for him to resign from his post for alleged failure of leadership amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

"We will answer these allegations in due time but right now we will continue to be in the trenches with our health care workers and frontliners," Duque said in a statement.

"I will continue to serve the country to the best of my abilities. Magtulungan po tayo," he added.

The DOH chief underscored that the DOH is doing its best to ensure that the Philippines has a "fighting chance" against COVID-19 despite the challenges and limited resources.

"This is not the fight of one man or of an agency, it is a fight for all of us Filipinos," he said.

Earlier in the day, several senators filed a resolution asking Duque to immediately step down for incompetence in handling the health emergency. -NB, GMA News
