Davao City to implement odd-even scheme in use of food, medicine passes

Davao City will begin implementing an odd-even coding scheme on the use of its food and medicine passes to minimize crowding at supermarkets, pharmacies and similar establishments amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) threat.

According to a statement, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) will begin implementing the coding scheme starting Saturday, April 18.

Under the scheme, FM passes with control numbers starting with 1,3,5,7,9 may be used on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays while passes with numbers starting with 2,4,6,8,0 may be used on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

On Sunday, supermarkets and grocery stores are requested to conduct disinfection and sanitization procedures.

"We will implement this to really control the movement of the people going out of their residents," DCPO Director Kirby John Kraft said in a statement.

The DCPO has also reportedly set-up 46 control points near wet markets and grocery stores all over the city to ensure compliance with the number coding scheme.

Violators will face charges such as disobedience and violation of the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act, according to the report.

However, the local government clarified that authorized personnel and frontliners specified under Executive Order 23-B are exempted. -Joahna Lei Casilao/NB, GMA News
