DOH: 32 health workers die of COVID-19; over 1,500 others infected

The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Wednesday that 32 health workers have died on the line of duty due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Among these fatalities were 24 doctors and seven nurses.

Meanwhile, the number of healthcare professionals who contracted COVID-19 has climbed to 1,552.

Of this number, 571 are nurses, 548 are doctors, 97 are nursing assistants, 60 are medical technologists, 30 are radiologic technologists, 18 are respiratory therapists, 17 are midwives, while 11 are pharmacists.

The remaining 200 are other frontliners such as barangay health workers, administrative aides, and utility workers.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said 232 of the confirmed cases have already recovered from the respiratory illness.

The DOH also reported that they continue to distribute hundreds of thousands of personal protective equipment to medical facilities across the country. -NB, GMA News
