Iloilo and Bacolod cities will remain under enhanced community quarantine until May 15 to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Malacañang said Thursday.

The decision was made by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases in its meeting on Wednesday, according to presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.

Other areas to remain under ECQ are Metro Manila, Central Luzon (except Aurora), CALABARZON, Pangasinan, Benguet, Iloilo province, Cebu City, Cebu province and Davao City.

On Tuesday, the Bacolod City Council passed a resolution urging the IATF for ECQ extension fearing that easing restrictions might cause a sudden influx of people.

The city council also cited the need to contain the further spread of the virus in two villages.

Starting on Friday, areas in the country with low and moderate risk of outbreak would be under general community quarantine while strict confinement measures would remain in localities under the enhanced community quarantine until May 15. --KBK, GMA News
