Some mass transportation will be allowed to operate in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) provided that one-meter distancing among passengers will be observed, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said Thursday.

"Regarding sa transportation, under GCQ ia-allow na 'yung ibang public and mass transportation provided na mayroong one meter distancing at saka mayroon pang additional preventive measures like thermal scanning bago sasakay at saka mayroon din siyang hand sanitation," Año said during a press briefing.

When it comes to passenger buses, only 50% of their capacity will be allowed, he said.

"Normally, 50% lang ang maa-accommodate sa capacity niya, kung 50 ang kaniyang capacity, 25 lang ang makakasakay doon. Gagawan nila ng paraan na alternate ang pag-upo ng pasahero," Año said.

The DILG chief, however, said jeepneys were still banned to operate in areas under GCQ.

"Makikita niyo 'yung configuration ng jeepney, magkakaharap 'yung tao diyan kapag lumabas 'yung isang pasahero diyan, mabubugahan niya 'yung dadaanan niya," Año said.

Año said the Department of Transportation would come up with final guidelines regarding the resumption of operations of some mass transport vehicles.—AOL, GMA News
