2 soldiers who recovered from COVID-19 test positive anew

Two soldiers who have recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)  tested positive anew for the virus.

According to Cedric Castillo's report on 24 Oras, one army officer had received a hero's welcome when he was discharged from the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center.

However, he once again tested positive for the virus three weeks later.

"Unfortunately, ang resulta sa atong pasyente, positive," a medical personnel said.

The soldier is currently quarantined at home and is being monitored by the Rural Health Unit of Labangan.

"We do not know if it is relapse, if it is the infection, if it is re-emerging. This is still for study. Kasi 'yun nga bago pa itong COVID-virus . . .  scientists are still studying kung ano ba talaga ang behavior," Dr. Joshua Brillantes, assistant regional director of DOH-9, said.

Last week, two patients from the Southern Philippines Medical Center also tested positive anew for the virus.

According to the World Health Organization, there is still no evidence that patients who have recovered and developed anti-bodies against COVID-19 will no longer acquire it. —Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
