Provinces report having no new COVID-19 cases in two weeks

Despite the continued rise of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines, a number of provinces reported having no new infections in the past two weeks, according to the Department of Health.

In a COVID-19 situationer released Sunday, the DOH said the following provinces reported not having any new cases between April 18 and May 2:

• Agusan del Sur
• Aklan
• Apayao
• Aurora
• Basilan
• Batanes
• Biliran
• Bohol
• Bukidnon
• Camarines Norte
• Camiguin
• Capiz
• Compostela Valley
• Cotabato
• Davao del Norte
• Davao Occidental
• Davao Oriental
• Dinagat Islands
• Eastern Samar
• Guimaras
• Ilocos Norte
• Ilocos Sur
• Kalinga
• Maguindanao
• Masbate
• Mountain Province
• Negros Oriental
• Northern Samar
• Pangasinan
• Quirino
• Romblon
• Sarangani
• Siquijor
• Sorsogon
• South Cotabato
• Southern Leyte
• Surigao del Norte
• Surigao del Sur
• Tawi-Tawi
• Zamboanga del Norte
• Zamboanga Sibugay

Meanwhile, 67 percent of the COVID-19 cases in the country were in Metro Manila.

The three barangays with the highest number of COVID-19 infections were Addition Hills in Mandaluyong City with 55 cases; Tandang Sora, Quezon City with 52 cases; and San Antonio, Parañaque with 50 cases.

The DOH, however, emphasized that it was still too early to conclude that the enhanced community quarantine had been effective due to delays in reporting from the onset of symptoms, “but initial imputation analysis seems to suggest that ECQ is keeping new case numbers steady.”

The Philippines recorded 9,223 COVID-19 cases with 1,214 recoveries and 607 deaths as of Sunday afternoon. — DVM, GMA News
