Duterte to givers of COVID-19 cash aid: Give it to the wives

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday night ordered officials in charge of distributing the cash assistance from the national government to hand the aid directly to the wives.

“This is a direct order to everybody. Pag mag-distribute kayo ng pera, wag niyong ibigay sa p--- inang asawa. Ibigay ninyo sa babae, to the wife. Wag sa lalaki… wala na ngang ginagawa, walang trabaho, at mayroon pang matanggap na pera, sinusugal naman ninyo,” Duterte said in a televised address.

Several Filipinos have been caught drinking, gambling, or cockfighting amid the quarantine, with some using the aid they received from the government to participate in these activities.

In Valenzuela City, some roosters used for cockfighting were turned into food by the city’s kitchen.

In Caloocan, some residents were also caught leaving their homes amid quarantine to engage in cockfighting.

Some residents of Sta. Rosa, Laguna were also found in a cockfighting derby by police.

Duterte earlier said that no more aid would be given to those caught drinking, gambling, and cockfighting.

“Karamihan nitong mga g--- na ‘to, they don’t really care about the family,” Duterte said. “Kayong mga Pilipino ‘pag malasing, wala na ngang binibigay sa pamilya, mambugbog pa ng pamilya."
