LTO gives 60-day grace period for driver's licenses that expired during ECQ

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has extended the validity of driver’s licenses that expired during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to 60 days that will start upon the lifting of the restrictions.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV on Tuesday, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante said when the offices open after the quarantine period, applicants may process their renewal within 60 days.

“’Yung inabot ng quarantine, hindi sila nakapag-renew sa date, ine-extend naman ‘yan. Bibigyan sila ng 60 days upon lifting ng quarantine,” he said.

“Ibig sabihin, kapag nagbukas na ulit ‘yung opisina ng LTO para sa processing nung registration ay renewal ng lisensya from that time, within 60 days,” he added.

According to Galvante, no penalties will be collected for the late registration of motor vehicles and renewal of driver's licenses that expire within the duration of the community quarantine.

Galvante also said the LTO will limit its transactions once the ECQ is lifted to observe health protocols, such as social distancing, in light of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

The LTO will reduce personnel in counters. To accommodate more applicants, the office is considering operating during Saturdays, Galvante said.

Frontliners will be the priority in the opening of the offices, Galvante added.

He advised applicants to process their registration before the end of the grace period to avoid overcrowding at the offices on the day of the deadline. --KBK, GMA News
