An employee of the National Food Authority (NFA) tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) but is now recovering from the deadly illness, the Department of Agriculture (DA) reported Tuesday.

According to Agriculture spokesperson Noel Reyes, the employee last reported for work on April 23 and she was in the office for a few hours. She has not reported to work since.

Reyes said the employee experienced difficulty in breathing on April 29, and was admitted to the Chinese Hospital the same day, where she tested positive for the virus.

"She was given medication immediately, and released, and her condition is improving fast," he said in a virtual briefing on Tuesday.

The NFA has since implemented health safety protocols to ensure the virus does not spread. This includes contact tracing and the self-quarantine of employees she came across with.

The agency also ordered the lockdown of its main office along Visayas Avenue in Quezon City to make way for disinfection. —KG, GMA News
