COVID-19 RESPONSE

PNP turns over P228.45-M cash donation raised from personnel’s contributions to DOF

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday turned over to the Department of Finance (DOF) P228.45 million worth of cash donations it raised from the voluntary contributions of its personnel to support COVID-19 response efforts.

During a ceremonial turn over in Manila, PNP chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa turned over a symbolic check representing the police force’s donation to Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III.

In a short message, Gamboa said the P228.45 raised is the contribution of all the members of the PNP.

The PNP chief also commended the PNPA (Philippine National Police Academy) Alumni Association which contributed almost P5 million and the Police Cavaliers Association Inc. for another P5 million contribution.

The National Capital Region Police Office also raised a hefty P30 million, according to Gamboa.

“This is a clear indication that the PNP is sympathetic to the plight of the government,” the PNP chief said.

The PNP earlier launched a “Bayanihan Fund Challenge” to raise over P200 million individual voluntary contributions of PNP personnel in response to President Rodrigo Duterte's candid admission of the government's extreme difficulty in providing the basic needs of the poorest of the poor in a prolonged crisis.

For his part, Dominguez said that the PNP’s act is “more than commendable, it is actually heroic.”

“I’m honored to receive the P228.45 million worth of cash donations from the voluntary contribution of all PNP uniformed and non-uniformed personnel for our COVID-19 response efforts,” the Finance chief said.

“This is truly noble and generous effort. It is a gift from the frontline. It is a great act of citizenship,” he said.
