A total of 1,934 health care workers have tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as of Thursday, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Friday.

Of these, 721 are nurses, 616 are physicians, 124 are nursing assistants, 71 are medical technologists, and 38 are radiological technologists among others.

Meanwhile, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the DOH has observed a decrease in the number of confirmed cases for the past days.

Vergeire previously expressed alarm over the rising number of affected health care workers, saying that these may lead to a shortage of medical frontliners in the future.
