COVID-19 positive health workers near 2,000; no new deaths in over a week

The number of health workers who have contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has climbed to 1,991, the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that these cases include 753 nurses, 628 physicians, 127 nursing assistants, 72 medical technologists, 39 radiologic technologists, and 158 other non-medical workers.

Nearly 73 percent or 999 of the infected health workers are mild cases, 367 are asymptomatic, while seven are in severe condition.

A total of 584 have already recovered from the respiratory illness while 1,373 are active cases or undergoing treatment or quarantine.

Vergeire also reported that the death toll remained at 34.

No new COVID-19 deaths among healthcare workers have been reported since May 2, according to daily reports from the DOH.

“Paunti na nang paunti ang bilang ng healthcare worker na nagpopositibo,” Vergeire also noted.

However, health workers still account for 19 percent of the total COVID-19 cases in the country.

The Philippines has logged 11,086 COVID-19 cases with 1,999 recoveries and 726 deaths as of Monday afternoon. —LDF, GMA News
