PSG asks public not to make online threats vs. Duterte

The Presidential Security Group (PSG) on Wednesday urged the people not to make online threats against anyone, including President Rodrigo Duterte, because they will be held liable for their actions.

“I would just like to convey to the people not to be involved in any way of threatening the President or anybody especially with the use of social media,” PSG commander Colonel Jesus Durante III said.

“Anybody could be held liable if he threatens to harm or kill a person ,what more if the one that is threatened is the president of the republic.”

Durante said the PSG would closely work with the law enforcement agencies to monitor and apprehend those who are responsible for such acts.

The PSG chief issued the statement after the National Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday filed an inciting to sedition complaint against Ronnel Mas, a public high school teacher who posted on social media a purported offer of P50 million to anyone who could kill Duterte.

A construction worker was also arrested in Malay, Aklan on Tuesday for allegedly offering P100 million to anyone who could kill the President.

Malacañang said on Tuesday that Mas will have a chance to defend his innocence at the proper venue. — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
