COVID-19 cases among PNP rise by 39 new infections to 179

The Philippine National Police on Wednesday recorded 39 additional coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases among its ranks, bringing the total number of infected police personnel to 179.

In an updated monitoring report, the PNP Health Service (PNPHS) said 57 of the patients have already recovered, while four succumbed to the illness.

Meanwhile, the remaining 118 active cases are currently undergoing strict observation and medical attention. Ninety-one patients are in quarantine facilities, while six are in hospital and 21 are isolating at home.

A total of 1,681 personnel, of whom 805 were probable persons under investigation, 863 were suspected PUIs, and 13 were confirmed positive patients, have completed self- or home quarantine.

The PNPHS said it is currently keeping tabs on 638 personnel categorized as probable PUIs, while 390 personnel were recommended as suspected PUIS.

The PNPHS added that health authorities have ramped up mass testing among the PNP.

The number of cases in the coming days may rise due to the pending results of some confirmatory tests, the PNPHS said.

Nationwide, confirmed cases of COVID-19 soared to 11,618 on Wednesday, including 772 deaths and 2,251 recoveries. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
