Number of health workers with COVID-19 rises to 2,125; no new deaths reported


The number of health workers who have contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has climbed to 2,125, the Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday.

Of this number, 669 have recovered while 1,421 are active cases or undergoing treatment or quarantine, according to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.

The DOH also said that 1,021 of the active cases were mild, 394 were asymptomatic, five were severe, while one was critical.

Meanwhile, the death toll remained at 35 after no new COVID-19 death was recorded among health workers on Tuesday.

The five medical professions with the highest number of COVID-19 cases were nurses with 779 cases, doctors with 642, nursing assistants with 132, medical technologists with 73, and radiologic technologists with 40.

Over 200 other non-medical workers were also included in the tally.

The latest data show that healthcare workers still account for 19 percent or one out of five of the total cases nationwide.

The Philippines has logged 11,618 cases with 2,251 recoveries and 772 deaths as of Wednesday afternoon. — BM, GMA News
