Ambo damage to agriculture estimated at P185.53M –DA


Cyclone Ambo, which continues to accelerate north of Luzon, has so far caused an estimated P185-million damage to the agriculture sector, the government reported Sunday.

Initial data released by the Department of Agriculture (DA) shows that total damage from Typhoon Ambo was estimated at P185.83 million as of 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16.

A total of 9,977 hectares of agricultural areas were affected covering 40,872 farmers, reflecting 10,366 metric tons of volume loss, subject to validation.

In terms of aquaculture, damage was estimated at P541,400, mostly incurred by Camarines Norte at P262,500, affecting a total of 85 fisher folk.

Camarines Sur followed with a total of P222,750 in damage —P10,000 worth of aquaculture, P152,700 worth of capture, and P60,000 worth of post-harvest income.

Meanwhile, Catandanues reported damage at P56,200, with 27 fisher folk affected.

Typhoon Ambo made landfall in Eastern Samar on Thursday last week. Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal 1 is still raised over Batanes, as Ambo accelerates moving north. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/LBG, GMA News
