Single new case brings number of COVID-19 health workers to 2,315

Only one new case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was recorded among health workers in the past two days, the Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said a total of 2,315 health workers have contracted the respiratory disease as of Monday.

“Nitong mga nakaraang araw ay paunti na nang paunti ang nakikita nating numero ng healthcare worker na nagpopositibo,” she said in a virtual press briefing.

Among these cases, 974 have already recovered—36 more than the 938 recoveries recorded as of Sunday.

Meanwhile, the death toll has remained at 35 since May 11.

The remaining 1,306 cases are undergoing treatment or quarantine.

Of this number, 968 are mild cases, 333 are asymptomatic, four are in severe condition, while one is critical.

The five medical professions with the highest number of COVID-19 cases were nurses with 842 cases, doctors with 671, nursing assistants with 144, medical technologists with 84, and radiologic technologists with 42.

Over 280 other non-medical staff were also included in the tally.

Despite the decreasing number of COVID-19 cases among health workers, they still account for 19 percent of the total infections nationwide.

The Philippines has logged 12,942 confirmed cases with 2,843 recoveries and 837 deaths as of Tuesday afternoon.  — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
