Health workers with COVID-19 now 2,330; no new deaths in 10 days

The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday reported that the number of healthcare workers infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has climbed to 2,330.

DOH Director IV Beverly Ho said that 1,049 of these health workers have recovered from the respiratory illness while 1,250 are active cases or undergoing treatment or quarantine.

Among the active cases, 926 are mild, 322 are asymptomatic, while two are in severe condition.

Meanwhile, Ho explained that the death toll dropped to 31 on Thursday from 35 just days before after they validated the health workers’ information and found that some of them were no longer in active duty.

“Ang mga datos po na sina-submit sa’tin ay lagi nating vina-validate lalo na kapag may bagong information na pumapasok. Nalaman nating 31 na lang po ‘yung bilang ng nasawi. The two other deaths are actually non-healthcare workers,” she said.

No new COVID-19-related deaths among health workers have been recorded since May 10.

Nurses still account for the highest number of COVID-19 cases with 850 infections, followed by doctors with 670, nursing assistants with 144, medical technologists with 86, and radiologic technologists with 42.

A total of 291 other non-medical staff were also included in the tally. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
