DepEd chief Briones thanks Recto for hosting her during 2-week home quarantine

Education Secretary Leonor Briones has expressed her gratitude to her former student Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto for adopting her when she tested positive for COVID-19.

The 79-year-old Cabinet official revealed this heart-warming act after Recto asked for the economic impact of the pandemic to the education sector during a Senate hybrid hearing on Thursday.

"Before I answer your question, I would like to reiterate my thanks to you for facilitating the spending of my two-week isolation in your home which enabled me to continue working," Briones said as she participated in the virtual inquiry.

The senator laughed and responded: "You're most welcome. It was a pleasure to host you."

Briones tested positive for COVID-19 in April despite showing no symptoms. She continued to work virtually and eventually tested negative for the virus.

During the confirmation of her appointment as DepEd chief in March 2017, Recto described Briones as his favorite teacher at the University of the Philippines National College of Public Administration and Governance.

"My nominee used to give me very hard homework in class, but those pale in comparison with the assignment she’s been given today. And the stakes are high. Because if she fails, the nation gets a failing grade on its most important assignment of all: to teach its children well," Recto said, voting for her confirmation.—AOL, GMA News
