Gamboa reminds cops to observe ‘balance’ in law enforcement

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa on Monday called on policemen to balance law implementation, saying that in some cases, humanitarian considerations must be enforced.

"We will encourage our policemen to balance between those who have less in life, sabi nga nila, must have more in law," Gamboa said in an interview on ANC. "Generally, ang guidance namin sa kapulisan is you have to balance sometimes 'yung humanitarian aspect as against kailan iimplement ang law."

"'Yun talagang discretion kung mag-file o puwede pa magpatawad ay nasa kapulisan talaga," he added.

This came following the incident involving fish vendor Joseph “Mang Dodong” Jimeda where he was arrested on May 7 for going to the Navotas Fish Market with no travel pass.

Gamboa said he would look into the case of the fish vendor.

"'Yung kay Mang Dodong, I will look into it. I'm not privy kung ano 'yung finile na kaso bakit siya nagbayad ng P3,000," Gamboa said.

Jimeda has already been reunited with his family in Caloocan City. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
