Malacañang on Monday urged the public to continue observing precautionary measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) amid a survey result that most Filipinos were worried that someone from their immediate family might catch the virus.

In a televised briefing, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said people should wear face masks while out in public, practice hand hygiene and physical distancing, as well as stay healthy.

“Dapat naman po tayong maabala dito sa COVID-19 habang wala pa pong vaccine, habang wala pa pong gamot pero hindi naman po kinakailangan na itigil na natin ang ating mga buhay,” he said.

Eighty-seven percent of Filipinos expressed worry that someone from their immediate family might be infected with COVID-19, according to a survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations from May 4 to 10.

Those not worried included 13% of the respondents (a combination of 7% worried a little and 7% not worried, correctly rounded).

A total of 4,010 respondents aged 15 and above took part in the survey, which was done through  mobile phone and computer-assisted telephone interviewing.
