COVID-19 cases among Filipino health workers reach 2,437; over 1k have recovered


The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reported that 17 more healthcare workers contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), raising total infections to 2,437.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said 1,193 of these health workers have recovered from the respiratory illness, while the death toll has remained at 31 since May 10.

The remaining 1,213 medical professionals are active cases or undergoing treatment or quarantine.

Of this number, 919 are mild cases, 292 are asymptomatic, while two are in severe condition.

Nurses still account for most of the COVID-19 cases among health workers with 884 infections, followed by doctors with 688, nursing assistants with 151, medical technologists with 89, and radiologic technologists with 46.

The DOH also included 306 other non-medical staff in the tally.

Health workers still account for 17 percent of the total cases nationwide.

The Philippines has logged 15,049 cases as of Wednesday afternoon. -NB, GMA News
