Nonprofit org to launch site to help OFWs amid COVID-19 threat

By KAELA MALIG

A nonprofit organization is set to launch a website that gives information and assistance to migrant Filipino workers who have been either repatriated or stuck abroad amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Safe and Fair Philippines, an organization that focuses on helping Filipina migrant workers, has shared that they will be launching their website “Babaeng Biya(hero)” by next month

During the organization’s live webinar on Facebook on Thursday, national project coordinator Rex Varona shared that all of the information an OFW might need would be put up on the website.

The site will feature guidelines and policies the country has for its migrant workers, making it useful for OFWs whether they’re here in Philippines or still working abroad.

These resources for OFWs may include transportation details, recovery programs and services, among other relevant information.

“We recognize situations vary on the countries of destination,” Varona said. “We have information depende kung nasaan nakalagay ang OFW.”

“Kung may particular na problema … we give referrals,” he added.

The site will act as a one-stop shop platform for all the news and updates an OFW might need to help them amid the pandemic.

After thousands of Filipinos were repatriated back to the country, 24,000 have been cleared of COVID-19. However, after two months of staying in quarantine, some continue to face delays in getting back home. – RC, GMA News
