Customs seizes, destroys 8.7 tons of unregistered, hazardous goods


Operatives from the Bureau of Customs-NAIA confiscated 8.7 tons of illegally imported medicines, cosmetics, cigarettes and electronic goods in Trece Martires, Cavite on Friday, the BOC said Sunday.

Hazardous goods arrived through different warehouses without proper permits and clearances, according the BOC.

It added the goods cannot be sold through public auction because it is unfit for consumption.

According to the BOC, the seized goods were destroyed using the Thermal Decomposer (Pyrolysis) Facility of the Integrated Waste Management Inc. (IWMI) “to make sure that these items will not be not sold or made available in the market.”

Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero and District Collector Carmelita Talusan said BOC-NAIA will continue its vigilance against the influx of dangerous drugs, anti-social goods and hazardous substances. —Ma. Angelica Garcia/LBG, GMA News
