Galvez on public's 'matira matibay' sentiment this GCQ: Hindi naman siguro

The chief implementer of the national policy against COVID-19 on Monday dismissed the supposed public notion of "survival of the fittest" amid the easing of quarantine protocols in Metro Manila.

At a press briefing, Secretary Carlito Galvez was asked about the "matira matibay" thinking of the public, especially now that the National Capital Region is already under general community quarantine.

From his observations, Galvez said the public has been following the protocols of the national government.

"Hindi naman siguro tama 'yung matira matibay kasi talagang tinitingnan namin. Kami nga nila DTI, umiikot kami nila NCRPO, nakikita namin talaga na 'yung mga tao, sumusunod din sa atin," he said.

Galvez shared an instance wherein he inspected shopping centers in Metro Manila. He noted there were only a small number of mall-goers because the public is still afraid of the disease.

"Umikot kami sa mga malls... akala natin madaming nandoon, alam niyo 20% pa lang ang pumupunta dahil malaki ang takot ng mga tao. Nakakaawa 'yung business sector dahil walang pumapasok sa mga stalls," he said.

"With that, nakikita din natin 'yung ating mga business sector, they are heightening up their strict protocols... Natutuwa nga kami dahil 'yung mga LGU at mga business sectors, mas mataas pa 'yung awareness nila..." he added.

Galvez assured the public that various government agencies and local government units are working together to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 among the public.
