No untoward incident recorded on 1st day of GCQ -PNP

No major untoward incident was recorded during the first day of the general community quarantine in the National Capital Region, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday afternoon.

In a press statement, PNP spokesman Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac said the observance of the first day of GCQ in Metro Manila and the modified GCQ in other areas was generally peaceful and orderly.

"Except for reports of stranded commuters due to inadequate public transportation, no other significant reports of major untoward incidents were recorded since the opening hours of June 1st," Banac said.

PNP chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa earlier ordered all police units to offer rides for commuters who will be stranded on the streets because of the limited mass transport vehicles.

Gamboa assured the public that cops are ready to extend maximum assistance to all workers who will report to their respective jobs in the coming days.

He also reminded the public to follow health and safety protocols as checkpoints and curfew would still be in place.

For its part, the Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesman Brigadier General Edgard Arevalo said the military would make adjustments with the deployment of its personnel in the coming days due to the shift to GCQ.

"We are prepared to deploy our personnel in relation to the changes in the local quarantine status," Arevalo said.—AOL, GMA News
