PNR service delay caused by garbage dumped on rails —official

The Philippine National Railways (PNR) explained Tuesday that the hours of delay experienced by passengers on Monday was due to garbage dumped on rails.

“Kahapon ang biyahe nagkaroon ng konting delay dahil sa mga basura na tinatapon sa gitna ng riles,” PNR officer-in-charge Celesta Lauta said in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV.

According to Darlene Cay’s report on “24 Oras,” some PNR passengers waited for three to five hours in line before they were  finally able to board the train.

The long lines outside Tutuban stretched all the way to the quadrangle outside the station, according to the report.

Lauta explained that PNR teams have to clear the garbage dumped between the rails before they allowed trains to run and service passengers.

To avoid similar incidents from happening, the PNR official said regular clearing of railways will be conducted.

The Philippines’ oldest railway line resumed operations on June 1. It operates from 3 a.m. until 8 p.m.
