DSWD hopes to complete distribution of second tranche of cash aid within June

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) hopes to finish the distribution of the second tranche of cash aid to low-income families this month, DSWD Secretary Rolando Bautista said Tuesday.

The government social amelioration program's two-month cash grant ranges from P5,000 to P8,000 per month, computed based on the prevailing regional minimum wage rates.

“Inaasahan po natin na sa loob ng buwan ng Hunyo ay matatapos natin ang distribution ng second tranche para magamit na po ng ating mga kababayan ang tulong na ito,” Bautista said.

Those who are qualified to receive the second tranche are in the areas that have been under enhanced community quarantine for the entire month of May: Region 3, Aurora province, the National Capital Region, Region 4A (Calabarzon), Benguet province, Pangasinan province, Cebu City, Bacolod City, and Davao City.

Bautista, however, said that the distribution of the second tranche is not yet scheduled because local government units have yet to submit their certified lists of additional qualified beneficiaries numbering at five million families.

“Hindi pa po nase-certify ng local chief executives itong listahan na may kasamang social amelioration card number. Dapat rin po certified ito ng city, municipal, provincial social welfare and development officer para masigurado po na kwalipikado ang nasa listahan,” Bautista said.

“Itong listahan pong ito, i-va-validate ng DSWD field officers, sa tulong ng mga local government units,” he added.

Moreover, the distribution of the first tranche of the social amelioration cash grant has not yet been completed, more than two months since the quarantine was imposed.

Per Bautista, P99.7 billion was distributed to 17.6 million out of 18 million low-income beneficiaries.

Quarantine measures have been eased since June 1, with 75% of the workforce per company now allowed to physically report back to work.

Mass transport has also resumed in Metro Manila where most of the COVID-19 cases are, but only at a limited capacity of 10 to 50%, leaving many workers stranded.

The Philippines has recorded 18,638 COVID-19 cases thus far.  Of this number, 3,979 recovered while 960 have died. — BM, GMA News
