UP now ranks 65th among top universities in Asia


The University of the Philippines (UP) went up to the 65th spot in the 2020 Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings.

UP made a significant jump in the rankings, climbing 30 points from last year’s 95th place.

According to the UP Media and Public Relations Office, THE made the announcement at the virtual THE Live Asia webinar on Wednesday.

UP has been featured in the university rankings since 2017. It entered the top 100 for the first time in 2019, rising 61 places from its 156th position in 2018.

In 2017, UP belonged to the 201st-250th ranking group.

Teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income were among the criteria used in the rankings.

UP’s improvement in the rankings this year was due to its 86.9 points in the citation category and 39.4 points in the industry income.

Tsinghua University in China was hailed as Asia's finest anew, according to the ranking, followed by the Peking University and the National University of Singapore.

The University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology placed fourth and fifth, respectively. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/LA, GMA News
