SWS: 84% of Pinoys believe lockdown amid COVID-19 pandemic worth it

At least 84% of Filipinos believe that the quarantine measures, which strictly required people to stay at home amid the COVID-19 pandemic, is worth it to prevent COVID-19 transmission, a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed.

The SWS poll, conducted last May 4 to 10, also revealed that 15% believe that strict stay-at-home measures due to COVID-19 are placing too many burdens on people while the remaining 1% thought these measures are worth it to protect the people but also placing too many burdens at the same time.


The percentage of those who found the lockdown policy worth it is higher in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, and Visayas at 84% compared with the 81% in Mindanao.

Likewise, more than 80% of the Filipinos also approved of the stay-at-home measure in areas under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) at 84% and General Community Quarantine (GCQ) at 83%.

The favorable view on stay-at-home protocol is highest among college graduates and those who reached college at 88%, followed by high school graduates at 83%. The approval of stay-at-home measure reached 77% among those who reached high school, but it is lowest at 75% at those who did not finish elementary school.

The SWS poll was conducted using mobile phone and computer-assisted telephone interviewing of 4,010 working-age Filipinos aged 15 years old and above nationwide.

There were 294 respondents in the National Capital Region; 1,645 in Balance Luzon; 792 in the Visayas; and 1,279 in Mindanao.

The margin of error is ±2% for national percentages, ±6% for Metro Manila, ±2 for Balance Luzon, ±3% Visayas, and ±3% in Mindanao.—AOL, GMA News
