Eleazar: Task force sees downward trend on number of quarantine violators

The Joint Task Force COVID Shield has seen a downward trend on the number of violators in this period of community quarantine.

At the Laging Handa press briefing on Friday, task force commander Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar said 720 violators were recorded on Thursday, which was lower compared to thousands of violators recorded on a daily basis before.

"So far po, since mag-start tayo, eh nagtala po tayo ng 191,000 violators. Pero pababa na po siya eh... Nakita po nating trend ang pagbaba niya," Eleazar said.

Of the total number, Eleazar said 108,000 were only given warnings by law enforcers.

The Philippine National Police earlier released data indicating a 59% decrease in focus crimes during the quarantine period, which is from March 17 to May 27.

Strict quarantine protocols have been implemented to ensure that the public stays at home amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Arrests with no warnings have been made by the police. — RSJ, GMA News
