Duterte appoints Davao hospital chief as undersecretary of DOH

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Dr. Leopoldo Vega as one of the undersecretaries of health, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea confirmed on Friday.

Vega is the chief of the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City, one of the country's first referral centers for COVID-19.

over the delay in the distribution of death and sickness benefits of health workers who have died or fallen ill in the fight versus the coronavirus.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on Saturday said having Vega join DOH is "a welcome development."

"This is a welcome development kasi si Dr. Vega ay napakatagal na nanilbihan bilang hospital chief and he knows a lot and is an expert in hospital operations," Vergeire said during the Laging Handa briefing. —NB/KG, GMA News
