Philippines reports 518 more COVID-19 cases, total up to 22,992

The Philippines on Tuesday recorded 518 more cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)—280 “fresh” or newly validated and 238 reported late—bringing the total to 22,992.

The Department of Health (DOH) also announced that total recoveries rose to 4,736 after 99 more patients recovered from the respiratory illness, while the death toll climbed to 1,017 with six new fatalities.

Among the fresh cases, 61 are from Metro Manila, 82 are from Region VII, 22 are repatriates, while the remaining 115 are spread out across the country.

Among the late cases, 89 are from Metro Manila, four are from Region VII, three are repatriates, while the 142 other patients came from various areas nationwide.

There are also 16,826 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, 16,136 of which are mild, 624 are asymptomatic, while 47 are severe and 19 are in critical condition.

As of June 7, the Philippines has 41 certified polymerase chain reaction facilities and 13 GeneXpert laboratories that have tested a total of 406,255 individuals.

A total of 143 other facilities are undergoing the five-step laboratory accreditation process, 119 of which were already on Stage 3 or above as of June 8.

The DOH earlier said it is checking COVID-19 patients’ date of onset of illness to obtain a more accurate picture of how fresh the newly reported cases are. —LDF, GMA News
