Eleazar to cops, public: Be wary of 'quarantine burnout'

By ANNA FELICIA BAJO, GMA News

Joint Task Force COVID Shield commander Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar has warned both police frontliners and the general public to be wary of "quarantine fatigue" or "burnout."

Based on his talks with experts, Eleazar said in the time of health crisis, people tend to be negligent in observing health and security protocols due to the stress brought by the threat of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

He added the quarantine burnout could pave the way for "more coronavirus infections as people may stop caring about taking care of themselves."

“The coronavirus is like a criminal. It is just waiting for an opportunity to strike, to infect people who would lower their guard,” Eleazar said in a press statement.

He said for the public, there could be instances in which they tend to forget to wash their hands, wear face masks, and violate physical distancing. He noted the public must understand that the health and safety measures should now be part of their daily habit.

On the other hand, cops manning control points may sometimes be lax in the performance of their duties, according to Eleazar.

Eleazar then ensured that measures are being undertaken "to ensure the wellness and alertness of those manning the checkpoints and conducting regular beat patrol."

“The discipline that policemen, soldiers, Coast Guard sailors, and BFP personnel during their training programs, as well as their physical fitness programs, is a big help in withstanding the quarantine burnout,” he said. —AOL, GMA News
