Lorenzana wants Metro Manila to be under MGCQ

If Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana would have his way, Metro Manila would be under a more relaxed modified general community quarantine.

"Personally, gusto ko nang maluwagan itong Metro Manila, maging MGCQ,” Lorenzana said at a Laging Handa press briefing Friday.

But, he said, discussions are still ongoing so that the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for Management of Emerging Infectious Disease can make its recommendation on the matter.

“Pero depende pa rin 'yan sa magiging rekomendasyon ng task force kung anong mangyayari sa Metro Manila,” the Defense chief said.

Earlier in the day, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said the National Capital Region will most likely remain under general community quarantine after June 15.

He said Metro Manila continues to record "fresh" coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.

Patuloy pa ring may mga fresh o new cases," Año told CNN.

"If we are going to relax it now, baka madapa eh.

In a separate interview with Dobol B sa News TV, Año said the "new normal" phase will be observed in some areas beginning July.
