85,000 Makati students to receive learner's package, internet load

Some 85,000 Makati City public school students, from pre-school to senior high school, are set to receive a learner's package and free internet load from the city's local government.

Mayor Abby Binay on Tuesday said that the package was a project, in coordination with the city's School Division Office, which aims to assist in the present education system affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Binay said the learner's package would include an OTG flash drive, printed modules, and two washable face masks. The free internet load was good for five hours.

"Kailangan ng ibayong pagtutulungan ng lahat ng sektor, kabilang ang mga magulang ng mag-aaral, upang matiyak na patuloy na makakamit ng kabataang Makatizens ang dekalidad na edukasyon sa kabila ng krisis," the Makati City government said.

"Sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng kaukulang kagamitan, tinitiyak ng kanyang pamunuan na lubos na makikinabang ang mga mag-aaral sa mga benepisyong alay ng blended learning approach ng DepEd," it added.

Binay urged parents to support Makati City's new program of as she also encouraged them to guide their children in studying despite the health crisis.

"Gamit ang OTG flash drive, maaaring mag-aral ang mga estudyante sa nilalaman nitong digitized learning modules kahit walang internet connection. Taglay nito ang videos, illustrations, at interactive exercises na dinevelop ng DepEd Makati," the city government said.

Aside from the free internet load and the learning package, students will also receive school uniforms, leather shoes, rubber shoes, and other school supplies.

Public school teachers will also be provided with internet load so that they can teach through online sessions.

Meanwhile, parents will also be issued with a journal that will guide them on how they can assist their children in lessons.

The city government said students could also check the DepEd Makati Learning Resources Portal for lessons. They can also use Google Classrooms and Facebook Messenger for internet-based teaching and follow-up sessions. — DVM, GMA News
