DOH says record-high July 3 cases due to change in data extraction time; no more 'fresh-late' breakdown next week

The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday explained that the record-high COVID-19 cases reported on July 3 was due to the change in the time for the extraction of data.

On Friday, the total number of COVID-19 breached the 40,000 mark after 1,531 more cases were recorded, bringing the total to 40,336.

“Yung numero natin kahapon na 1,531 na sabi nga pinakamataas so far, kailangan natin balikan... nagbago kami ng oras para mag-extract ng data,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

“Umikli yung oras ng pag-extract ng data... from 5 p.m. ginawa namin alas dose ng tanghali,” Vergeire said.

Because of the shorter time of data extraction prior to reporting of cases, Vergeire said cases that were unaccounted the previous day were added to the number of cases reported on Friday.

On Thursday, July 2, the Phlippines logged 294 new cases.

Vergeire also announced that the DOH beginning next week it will do away with breaking down cases into “fresh” and “late.”

The DOH official said the agency will present cases in a graph, indicating the trend for the past three days. -MDM, GMA News
