Philippines' COVID-19 cases exceed 41,000 with 1,494 new infections


The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the country rose to 41,830 on Saturday with 1,494 new infections, of which 403 are "fresh" or newly validated and 1,091 are late, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

The DOH also announced that 380 more patients have recovered from the illness, bringing the total to 11,453, while the death toll increased to 1,290 with 10 new ones.

Among the fresh cases, 180 are from the National Capital Region, 90 are from Region VII, and 133 are from other areas across the country.

Among the late cases, 499 are from the National Capital Region, 146 are from Region VII, 434 are from other areas across the country, and 12 are repatriates.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire has said that the DOH will no longer break down cases into "fresh" and "late" starting next week.

There are also 27,983 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine. Among this, 26,528 are mild, 1,291 are asymptomatic, 136 are severe, and 28 are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, at present, the Philippines has 55 certified polymerase chain reaction facilities and 20 GeneXpert laboratories. -MDM, GMA News
