Envoys from EU countries donate blood to Philippine Red Cross

Several envoys from various member countries of the European Union donated blood to the Philippine Red Cross on Tuesday, according to the humanitarian organization's chairperson Senator Richard Gordon.

"In support of the urgent need for more blood donors and in celebration of the World Blood Donors Month, the European Union Delegation and their Ambassadors donated their blood earlier at the Philippine Red Cross," Gordon said in a Facebook post.

"This support from the EU, especially during this time of crisis, shows that there are no boundaries in helping and lifting one another to achieve victory over the virus," he added.

Among those who donated their blood at the Red Cross headquarters in Mandaluyong were EU Delegation Charge d'Affaires Thomas Wiersing, Greek Ambassador Antonis Alexandiri, Netherlands Ambassador Saskia De Lang, Spanish Ambassador Fernando Heredia, and Sweden Ambassador Harald Fries.

Romanian Ambassador Mihail Bujor Sion and his wife Laura Maria Sion, as well as Meagan Baldwin, spouse of Belgian Ambassador Michel Goffin, made blood donations.

Last month, Gordon enjoined the public to become blood donors to ensure that blood banks would not run out of supply in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. — BM, GMA News
