The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) is now 90% full as COVID-19 patients filled up its dedicated intensive care units, its spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV, PGH spokesperson Dr. Jonas del Rosario said the number of COVID-19 patients in the hospital increased in the past seven days.

“Marami pa po kaming natatanggap kasi referral center po kami. Ito pong the last seven days, umakyat naman po ang aming numero,” he said.

“Ang amin pong occupancy ngayon ay nasa 90%. 'Yung aming ICU ay puno,” he added.

Due to this, Del Rosario said the hospital can only accept mild, moderate, and severe cases of COVID-19 since these patients do not need intensive care unlike critical patients.

“Makakatangap lang kami ng referrals na hindi muna sa ICU dahil napuno 'yung ICU. Nakakatanggap pa kami ng mga iba na mild to moderate to severe na hindi naman kailangan ng ICU care,” he said.

Del Rosario supported the report of some hospitals in Metro Manila that their ICU beds for COVID-19 patients were already filled up.

On Monday, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire identified the 11 hospitals in Metro Manila that reported a 100% utilization rate of their ICU beds dedicated for COVID-19 patients.

But, presidential spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque assured that Metro Manila has enough facilities for COVID-19 patients.

“Pero totoo ang sinasabi ng ibang hospital na tumataas ang numero ng naa-admit sa hospital ulit,” Del Rosario said.

On Tuesday, the Department of Health reported 1,540 new cases of COVID-19 in the country bringing the total to 47,873 with 12,386 recoveries and 1,309 fatalities.—AOL, GMA News
