Comm. Sandra Sanchez-Montano named new PCW chairperson

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) Commissioner Sandra Sanchez-Montano as the commission's new chairperson.

Montano replaced Rhodora Bucoy, who resigned as PCW chair on July 7.

Montano's appointment was announced by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea via text message on Thursday.

"Commissioner Sandra Sanchez-Montano replaced Rhodora Bucoy," he said.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the PCW denied that Duterte has fired Bucoy.

"The Philippine Commission on Women denies rumors that President Rodrigo Duterte fired PCW Chairperson Rhodora Bucoy," it said.

According to its Facebook page, PCW "is the primary policy-making and coordinating body on women and gender equality concerns."

It added that the commission "acts as a catalyst for gender mainstreaming, authority on women’s concerns, and lead advocate of women’s empowerment, gender equity, and gender equality in the country." —KBK, GMA News
