Motorcycle back-riding allowed if couples can present marriage certificate — Palace

Motorcycle back-riding will only be allowed for couples with proper identification documents such as the marriage certificate, Malacañang said Thursday.

In a televised briefing, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque advised couples to keep a photocopy of the marriage contract, which will be presented to law enforcers.

“Hindi naman po kinakailangan ‘yung original,” he said.

“Inuulit po natin na itong back-riding po ay para lamang sa mga mag-asawa, para lang sa mga pribado, hindi po kasama diyan ang [ride-hailing firm] Angkas dahil nawala na po ang prangkisa ng Angkas.”

Earlier in the day, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said back-riding in motorcycles will be allowed but for couples and live-in partners starting Friday, July 10, utilizing motorcycles with protective shields between both riders.

Año also said that violators will be punished in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.

Roque said the government’s COVID task force will finalize the guidelines on motorcycle back-riding on Friday. — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
