No need for total NAIA lockdown -MIAA

There is no need to place the entire Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on lockdown as it services significant aviation needs of the country, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said Monday.

According to MIAA general manager Eddie Monreal, the MIAA has already taken steps to ensure health safety after 32 employees tested positive for the coronavirus disease.

"Hindi po kailangan i-lockdown ang ating paliparan dahil unang una, ito ay isang importanteng ahensya o kaya't opisina na nagtutugon sa mga pangangailangan ng aviation ng ating paliparan sa bansa," he said during the Laging Handa briefing.

The MIAA is mandated to formulate and adopt internationally acceptable standards of airport accommodation and upgrade and provide safe, efficient, and reliable facilities for international and domestic air travel.

His remarks came after the two-week lockdown imposed on the anti-trafficking offices of the NAIA, as four employees tested positive for COVID-19.

"Ayon po sa protocol na susundan natin, 'yan ay alinsunod sa tinatalaga ng Department of Health (DOH), 'pag mayroong isang opisina na nagkaroon ng positibong isang empleyado, 'yan ay sinasarado natin ng at least three days," he said.

Monreal said the offices have already been disinfected, and the employees are now being monitored and are under quarantine.

There have been a total of 32 employees who tested positive for COVID-19, 10 of whom have already recovered.

"'Yung natitira ay kasalukuyang naka-quarantine at binabantayan at inaasikaso ng ating pamahalaan," said Monreal.—AOL, GMA News
