DepEd open for late enrollees until August 24, says official

The Department of Education (DepEd) will still accept late enrollees until the opening of class on August 24 after seven million of expected students did not enroll during the enrollment period.

In a public briefing on Thursday, DepEd Undersecretary Revsee A. Escobedo attributed the low number of enrollment to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Escobedo conceded that parents were struggling financially as many Filipinos lost their jobs due to the pandemic. He noted that over 300,000 private school students already transferred to public schools.

Aside from this, Escobedo said parents are still worried for the health and safety of their children.

However, he said DepEd assures the parents that the students will be safe with the implementation of blended learning in the coming school year. —KBK, GMA News
