Roque wants return of quarantine passes in Metro Manila

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. said Thursday he would ask the government’s COVID-19 task force to require Metro Manila residents to bring quarantine passes when leaving their residences.

At a televised briefing, Roque found quarantine passes necessary in the implementation of movement restrictions to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Authorities no longer require the presentation of quarantine passes in GCQ areas since June 1. Metro Manila is currently under GCQ.

Local government units may still require quarantine passes in “high-risk” barangays known as critical zones and buffer zones that they are monitoring and doing contact-tracing activities, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

Roque said on Wednesday that Metro Manila may revert to modified enhanced community quarantine if the number of infections in the country reaches 85,000 by the end of July as projected by experts from the University of the Philippines.

Government data showed that Metro Manila recorded 24,924 active cases and 969 deaths as of July 22. -MDM, GMA News
