Shuttered broadcast network ABS-CBN Corporation on Monday offered its transmission network to aid the government in reaching students for distance learning amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“On top of our transmission network, we are also offering the use of all the educational programs we have produced over the past 20 years,” the company said in a statement.

House Deputy Speaker Luis Raymund Villafuerte earlier proposed that the government temporarily use ABS-CBN’s television

and radio frequencies for distance learning.

In his fifth State of the Nation Address, President Rodrigo Duterte also said TV frequencies that would be returned to the government would be used for the “uninterrupted, quality education" of students.

“Our commitment to the public is for ABS-CBN to continue serving the Filipino in whatever capacity we can,” the network said.

“While this is not expected to have any business impact to the company, we are hopeful that our network can help in the education of our students nationwide,” it added.

Duterte also reiterated that he would not allow face-to-face classes until a vaccine for COVID-19 has been found. -NB, GMA News
