Westmincom chief Sobejana is incoming Army commanding general

Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command chief Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana is the incoming Philippine Army commanding general.

This was confirmed Thursday by Sobejana himself who admitted being informed by both Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and Armed Forces chief General Felimon Santos.

"Of course I am very happy to be selected to lead the Philippine Army. I consider this as a new challenge and I am very thankful to our Almighty ... God is so good and to God be the glory," Sobejana said.

Sobejana will be replacing Lieutenant General Gilbert Gapay, who has been named as incoming military chief

when Santos ends his military tour of duty on August 3.

Sobejana, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1987, will become the second Medal of Valor awardee to assume the top Army post. Retired general Arturo Ortiz (PMA 79) was the first one.

 Asked what would be his plans when he assumes his new post, Sobejana said: "Inherent sa major service commander to build the capability of the organization in terms of equipment and human resource. Of course, you have to come up with the doctrine, techniques, tactics and procedures  [to] ensure victory of our troops as they are deployed to the frontline."

Sobejana, however, refused to reveal who would succeed him as Westmincom chief. — RSJ, GMA News
