Complaints about social amelioration distribution fewer due to e-payment —Belgica

By JAMIL SANTOS,GMA News

Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) Commissioner Greco Belgica on Saturday said there were lesser complaints from the public regarding the second tranche of Social Amelioration Program (SAP) distribution as it was done via electronic payment.

"Definitely po nakabawas kasi noong simula pa lang ng distribution, 'yung first wave isinuggest na po namin 'yan na mas maganda kung electronic. Mas maganda kung gagamitin 'yung mga financial institutions na ginagawa na rin ng mga barangay dahil mas organized," Belgica said at the Laging Handa public briefing.

"Ngayon po, I just don't have the exact figures pero, wala kaming naririnig masyado na nare-report," he added.

Belgica said the commission received a total of 3,992 complaints regarding the Social Amelioration Program.

"Lahat po 'yun ay naaksyunan na, 90% of which are outside of our jurisdiction so this was endorsed to the proper [agencies]," he said.

Belgica added the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) already filed cases against certain individuals following an endorsement by the PACC.

Under the program, low-income families will be given cash assistance of P5,000 to P8,000 per month for two months to help them cope with the COVID-19 pandemic.

As of July 28, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has distributed around P46.5 billion to more than 6.95 million families for the second tranche of the program. —KG, GMA News
